BI Systems Analyst

**This position is entitled to a shift premium as it will be supporting our UK office, working hours are 5:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday to Friday

 

Position Summary

 

As a member of the Business Intelligence Team, the BI Systems Analyst will be provided with an unprecedented opportunity to work with a dedicated team of highly trained professionals and technology leaders working to shape the future of analytics at Oanda. They will be a key supporting member ensuring proactive participation in BI initiatives. This opportunity allows the individual to learn about critical business processes across Oanda, as well as develop an understanding of the technologies supporting FX Trade operations. The role involves collaborating with business and information management teams across the organization through multiple initiatives and providing analytic support to the BI user community. The analyst is also responsible for developing rapid POCs and prototypes for numerous use cases and deploy applicable prototypes to the broader organization. The Analyst is a member of a cross-functional BI/Analytics team comprised of analytical and technical team members.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop data and database oriented solutions in order to solve complex business problems leading to data driven decision making.
  • Develop data integration processes to integrate disparate data sets into a cohesive data model in support of BI and analytical requirements.
  • Develop scalable/enterprise data marts targeted for broad deployment across a division or the entire enterprise.
  • Participate in planning sessions with key stakeholders to develop use cases and requirements for data driven analytical solutions.
  • Take ownership of a problem and stay with it through to resolution -- often involves coordinating the actions of people in other teams to achieve the desired result.
  • Create rapid prototypes with team members leveraging traditional database technologies and alternative solutions.
  • Data analysis and modeling

  • BI Triage support, BI User Education/Training
  • Supporting document management and knowledge sharing
  • Supporting the activities related to the collection, review, cleansing, quality and reporting of data as well as end user adoption of our BI applications across the organization
  • Identify and apply statistical and advanced analytical methods with customer teams enabling action oriented results.
  • Ensure assigned deliverables are within business / audit control requirements.
  • Implement necessary processes and tools to ensure process maturity and best practices are followed.
  • Lead design discussions and decisions as it relates to business intelligence and database solutions and drive decisions through to completion.
  • Provide end user training and UAT support when required.
  • Working hours are 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics or comparable
  • Good computer applications knowledge (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook), Informatica, shell Scripting is considered an asset
  • Experience in web application development and BI reporting
  • Familiarity with Agile development approaches and methodologies
  • Knowledge of servers, storage, databases, Unix/Linux, Java/Python and experience of working with large Databases will be considered an asset
  • Analytic minded and out of the box thinker; innovative with "can do" attitude
  • User-centric with excellent customer service skills
  • Strong relational database knowledge and SQL skills is required, preferably with DB2 RDBMS
  • Experience with enterprise business intelligence platforms like Domo, Tableau or MicroStrategy is a plus
  • Knowledge of Informatica or ETL tool is a plus
  • Knowledge of statistical tools like R or SAS is a plus
  • Enthusiasm and passion for analytics
  • High degree of initiative with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong attention to details, organizational skills, interpersonal / customer skills, and a customer service focus
  • Possess a positive attitude and is a strong team player
  • Knowledge of and experience in HTML5, Javascript, Java, Python, Perl, Unix/Linux and SQL or other equivalent programing and scripting languages
  • Strong analytical skills, technical acumen and demonstrated experience in data gathering, data analysis, conceptual and logical models and physical data design are required, as well as experience with all aspects of the software development process
  • Understanding of database query performance and optimization
  • Knowledge of and experience in DB2, Data Modeling or RDMS is an asset
  • Knowledge of information visualization best practices and strategies
  • Knowledge of FX Trade, Trading is an asset
